  • About

I love the field of Child Life and enjoy having this blog to network, learn, and share information with other people who are already in the field, or interested in pursuing a career in it. I post anything and everything from internships, to tips for parents, and Child Life in the news. I graduated from the University of Utah last year with my BS in Human Development and Family Studies with a Child Life Emphasis. I am currently planning on applying for the Child Life Internship at Primary Children's Medical Center in the fall. For readers who are new to the field, Child Life Specialists help to make the hospital experience a less scary one for children and the entire family. They aim to do this by providing step by step procedural preparations including informing the child (in an age appropriate detail) about what they will hear, smell, touch, taste, and see during a test or surgery. Child Life Specialists also provide developmentally appropriate play, distraction during tests, emotional support to the patient as well as the entire family, sibling education and support, and bereavement support if necessary. Inbetween Employment

Published by wordsforeverything at 6:13 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

I’m curious for suggestions out there for solutions to inbetween employment if you are not yet Certified but want to do something that will give you an edge when applying for Child Life Specialist jobs. I realize it’s hard to be picky right now in these times, but I also think it helps tremendously to get all the related experience you can get. I know the popular feedback I have seen before has been nannying or being a preschool teacher, but any other suggestions? I know Child Life Assistant positions are great while you are working on Certification, but there are no hospitals near me who have Child Life Assistants. Thanks in advance for your input!

Also, if you have emailed me with questions and I haven’t answered you yet I promise I am working on catching up on all my email! Thanks!

I saw your blog thru FB.
Kudos to you for attempting to get out there and network!

I know it’s hard finding a job in CL, let alone anywhere right now.
Depending on your availabilty and how eager you are to find a job….
you should definately consider volunteering in the hospitals if you haven’t already.

Are you interested in your Master’s ? That may be a good filler too. After being a CLS for nearly six years before I had children of my own, I decided to switch tracks and get my certification k-3. There is ALOT more stability and you get to be home when your kids r home too. There is a HUGE need for Special Ed. and Speech Paths. ( Plus MORE money too).

Good luck to you here on your blogs.

    Wendy
