I can’t believe how far behind I am on updating. Time has been getting away from me lately, but I guess that is a good thing because it means I have been busy. I’m putting the final touches on my internship applications. I also wanted to wish everyone good luck if you are applying for internships that have deadlines on September 5th.

The most recent episode of Child Life Julz showcases and discussed a wonderful organization called Child’s Play. The program coordinator, Kristin Lindsay, is Julz special guest and they discuss a lot of information regarding the charity. Her contact information is available on their website. Child’s Play was founded in 2003 and is a community based charity that revolves around the world of video games. In the five years since they have been founded, they have had over 3 million dollars of donations! Child’s Play works with non-profit hospitals. The initial inspiration for the Child’s Play charity came from an opinion article claiming all video games trained people to kill and there were no positive benefits to be gained from video games. Well, wanting to prove the author of the article wrong, an artist and a writer from an online comic strip decided to hold a toy drive for their local children’s hospital, Seattle Children’s.
To learn more about Child’s Play, check out the podcast. It is 20 minutes long and has a ton of great info!

Recently I was linked at Lisa Field’s Child Life Web Page under her Child Life Resources. I am really grateful for the attention, so thank you Lisa! It’s nice to be linked and receive wonderful feedback when I am still at such an early stage in my Child Life Career. There is a truly amazing quote on Lisa’s page I was made aware of that I want to write about here, because I can’t tell you how many times people ask me why I chose to go into such a field that can be incredibly depressing at times. Here is the quote:
“The question, “Why do children suffer?” Has no answer unless it is simply, “To break our hearts.” Once our hearts get broken, they never fully heal. They always ache. But perhaps a broken heart is a more loving instrument. Perhaps only after our hearts have cracked wide open, have finally and totally unclenched, can we truly know love without boundaries.”

I’m going to focus on posting information and applications for internships over the next few weeks, simply because I think it will help me personally get excited and pumped for the next round of my own applications and also the fact the September 5th deadline is fast approaching and I want to help out who I can in their Child Life journey. That said, Wolfson Children’s Hospital offers a 15 week Child Life Internship. You must be enrolled in a university and receive credit for the internship in order to apply.
